Prior to joining the Department of Education, Mr. Benjamin served as the Human Capital Director and Deputy Chief Human Capital Officer at the Executive Office of the President, Office of Management and Budget (OMB). At OMB, he managed its human capital office and led the Agency's strategic forecasting and policy development, workforce development & employee engagement initiatives, and developed its diversity and inclusion plan.
Before joining OMB, Mr. Benjamin served as the Deputy Human Resources Officer for the T Bureaus at the U.S. Department of State where he led the civil service staff for three bureaus supporting its arms control and international security missions. He performed this role by managing the full complementary services of human resources to include classification, staffing, performance management, employee relations, and workforce planning.
Over a 22-year career, Mr. Benjamin has served as a member of the United States Air Force, a civil servant for the Department of Defense and an adjunct instructor for several local institutions of higher learning. Additionally, Mr. Benjamin is a certified professional coach and executively trained in strategic diversity, equity, and inclusion management through Georgetown University. He is the recipient of several awards for his superior leadership and notable results as a change agent of federal human resources programs.
Mr. Benjamin is a graduate of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, University of Baltimore, and Johns Hopkins University. As a native of Washington, DC, he is the husband to Angela Benjamin and the proud father of a son, Andrew and a daughter, Naomi.
